If someone’s gonna feel let down by your career decisions, it shouldn't be you.

Systems and workplaces and the way things are done and the rules that have been created work for some.

They’re not great for all.

You gotta push back sometimes. You have to make your career decisions for you. Yes, there is a lot of kindness and love in the world but not everyone has your best interest in mind.

Not always because they don’t care but because they’re not you.

They are prioritizing their needs, their goals, their dreams. And why shouldn’t they?

If they love you, they will prioritize your safety, your security, your sameness. And why wouldn’t they?

These are not recipes for your happiness though.

Let them be disappointed in you.

Prioritizing not letting others down even if it means abandoning yourself is not a good long term strategy.

Life is ridiculous and they’ll have forgotten it in an instant. You, on the other hand will face yourself in the mirror each day.

Cheering you on with bucketloads of compassion over here!

It is possible and I believe favourable for workplaces to consider the notion that a person’s work can be the least stressful part of their life.

Why shouldn’t it be?

It's possible for workplaces to create meaningful, profitable, output and prioritize being the least stressful part of their employees' lives.

If the workforce isn’t well, who does the work?

The company bottom line is important, of course, but not at the expense of the workforce.

We can’t keep choosing the wrong thing.

Yes, good work can be expected

Yes, upholding values can be encouraged

Yes, respect is required.

But it is mutual. And I believe when workplaces lead, the workforce follows suit.
