A Word About Career Change

I create all kinds of career resources because I want you to go after your dreams. I absolutely believe you can love your work and I want you to love your life.

I also want you to know something else.

Loving your job will not be the magic wand to creating a life full of only unicorns and daisies. Luckily, this is not a problem.

We're socialized to believe there is a certain way things "should" be. This can cause us a great deal of suffering that is largely unnecessary. Judging and comparing our life to others, wishing things weren't the way they are, and trying to measure up to some unrealistic standard of perfection can become a habit.

I wanted to be very clear about something. The truth is, life will always be a blend of good things and bad things. There is no version of our life that will ever be perfect.

So let's take the pressure off of believing that we can't enjoy our life until we get a different job, more money, better coworkers, a nicer house, or a shorter commute. Those things are great. I want them for you if that's what you want but you don't need those things to be happy.

They won't magically rid you of ever having another bad day. They won't cure anxiety. They won't prevent you from ever feeling bored or lonely or stressed out.

Changing the view might create a temporary fix but that's all it will be. You'll be very disappointed when you notice that the new view didn't solve all of your problems. What I hear time and time again is "What's wrong with me? Why can't I just be happy?"

You can. Just not all the time. Being human means experiencing a blend of positive and negative. You've been doing it right all along.

So pursue change because it's fun. Challenge yourself to an adventure because of who you'll become on the other side of it. Be here. Right now.

I'll be cheering you on.

Cheers,

Christine

Sarah took the Make Work Better quiz and said this:

“Christine! I wanted to say thanks. I completed the quiz and then it clicked: I don't feel my contributions are recognized or valued by my employer. Time to have a tough conversation and make some decisions. Thanks for the nudge.”

Kim, a one on one coaching client had this to say about working with me:

I followed Christine on social media for quite some time before I reached out so I felt confident that she was the right coach for me. I’d recommend her coaching for anyone who feels stuck in their career and doesn’t quite know where to begin – anyone looking for accountability and motivation to change. Working with Christine led to a huge shift in my thinking about the level of power I have over my personal contentment. What I liked best about working with Christine was that I felt safe – she is genuine, honest and supportive – so I was able to be vulnerable and easily share what I needed in order to move forward. Her constant reassurance that it’s okay to continue exploring, shifting and changing as I grow was invaluable for my piece of mind. Most importantly, Christine believed in me when I had trouble believing in myself. She helped me truly internalize that no matter what obstacles and challenges arise, I can persevere and continue moving forward.
